LCBH Twin Packs Series 1

legendary comic book heroes twin packs series 1Marvel Toys has really been impressing fans with its Legendary Comic Book Heroes line and the first set of Twin Packs from this series is no exception. The Twin Packs are an off-shoot of the regular build-a-figure assortments and each pack includes two figures that are usually either classic superhero partners or sworn enemies! The first set of pairings gives us Conan facing off against his nemesis Wrarrl, as well as the father-daughter bounty-hunting duo Body Bags. Expand the post for pics and reviews!

CONAN AND WRARRL

The first pairing in this set of Twin Packs is Conan and Wrarrl. Both of these figures are outstanding. They each sport the 30+ points of articulation that we’ve come to expect from Marvel Toys and they are both decked out with cool gear and accessories. And both of these figures demonstrate a level of detail in paint and sculpt that is really just quite breathtaking. To have them in hand, you’d think they just leapt right out of Conan’s mystical Cimmerian world.

CONAN

Conan is pretty great. He comes with a big, imposing double-bladed axe and a long sword that fits into a scabbard on his back. He is also draped in a bear-skin cloak that is exquisitely detailed. I was very impressed by the paint and sculpt of the bear claws on the underside of the skin. His articulation is excellent, and his sculpt is nice and lean and beefy without being too overdone. This figure would really probably be my favorite offering from Marvel Toys so far, if it weren’t for the fact that Wrarrl is even more awesome!

WRARRL

Wrarrl is a big, mean, scary looking dark demon knight sort of thing. Admittedly, I know nothing about the character. But that doesn’t matter because an awesome toy is an awesome toy. Wrarrl’s detail is incredible. His face sculpt is wicked, his tattered, muddy cloak is amazing, and his sash, sword, helm, and scabbard are all excellent accessories. You’ll have a lot of fun posing this guy too, as his articulation and range of motion are both superb. This set comes very highly recommended.

BODY BAGSI have no idea who these goofballs are. At first, I was going to pass on this set. I didn’t much care for the rounded, cartoonish look of the characters. But once I saw them in person, I couldn’t resist. Body Bags, evidently, is the code name for a father-daughter bounty hunter team of Panda (the teenage cheerleader daughter) and Clownface (the big, over-muscled knife-wielding dad). I really like what Marvel Toys did with these two. They showed a lot of innovation and ‘thinking outside the box’ to pull off a look for these figures that is true to the source material.

CLOWNFACE

Clownface is muscle-bound and ’suffers’ from Hasbro-style swivel elbow and knee joints. I quote ’suffers’ because that’s really not quite the right word. The fact is, his biceps are so big that a traditional bicep cut probably would have been useless; they’d collide with his bulbous torso and limit the range of motion. And since he’s wearing pressed slacks (heh) the sculpt isn’t broken up too much by the swivel joint at the knee. Basically, this is a really nice example of where these types of joints actually work! (Are you paying attention, Hasbro?!) I also really like the use of ‘real’ chains on Clownface (and Conan’s axe). It seems like it would be kind of out of place, but it actually adds a nice dimension of realism to the figure. Good stuff.

PANDA

Panda is another clever and innovative figure. Her diminutive frame wouldn’t allow for standard joints, so Marvel Toys gave her true ball-and-sockets for her shoulders, hips, and ankles. She lacks elbow joints altogether and gets single knee joints. It doesn’t hurt her too much though; she’s still quite poseable. And her big, oversized, maniacal grin is just really well done. I also like her hair sculpt and the texturing on her sweater. It’s this level of detail that really makes these figures special. You can tell that the guys at Marvel Toys really care about what they do because it really shows through in the way they handle the little things like Panda’s skirt pleats and frilly shoelaces. While I’d have to say that Conan and Wrarrl are definitely the better set, Body Bags is still very much a worth addition to your collection!
